J.J. Augagneur & D. Bergeron Double Bass Bow
Jean-Jacques Augagneur and Denis Bergeron are well recognised for their fine bass bows which they crafted entirely by hand in the traditional French manner. The bows always feel comfortable in the hand and indeed they respond well to both solo, chamber and orchestral playing. During the 1980s and 90s there was a particularly strong demand for them in the UK and many were brought over by both players and dealers. This exquisite gold and tortoise-shell example was produced around 1990 and is featured in the book “Discovering Bows for the Double Bass” by Chris Brown which was published in 1994 by Beaux Arts Editions.
To come across a bass bow of such distinction that has been made from such lavish materials and which is still in the same condition as the day it was finished is an incredibly rare thing indeed. This is for sure an item for a collector, museum or for the most discerning of bass players.
