Albert Nürnberger Double Bass Bow

Albert Nürnberger Double Bass Bow

When you look and play this bow it is not difficult to understand why Albert Nürnberger (b-1854, d-1933) is considered to be one of the finest German bow makers. The head of this bow is inspired by the work of Voirin and the stick is strong yet flexible. We particularly like the frog of this bow for it is a few millimetres shallower than average, which makes it feel incredibly comfortable in the hand. The bow was formerly in the ownership of a now retired member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra who informed us that he used it daily for over 50 years. Although it does show some signs of that heavy usage, particularly at the nose of the frog and at the thumb position on the stick, both areas have been skilfully built back up and indeed this repair aspect is reflected in the low price. Of most importance is the fact that even after half a century of professional use the stick still feels incredibly dynamic and well-balanced.

For anybody in the market for a named old bow of quality, a bow that knows absolutely all of the orchestral repertoire, this bow is sure to provide a great service for many years to come if not for another entire career.
