During the 1970s-80s Ronald Prentice became recognised as a specialist double bass maker and regularly had a two-year waiting list for orders. Ron is credited with a total output of 50 double basses that were constructed from excellent Sitka spruce and maple that he sourced in Germany and beautifully flamed English sycamore that he acquired in Scotland. After Ron retired from making The Contrabass Shoppe managed to acquire some of Ron’s unused wood and half-finished instruments, two of which were given to a talented young maker from Budapest called Akos Balazs to finish off. This smallish violin outline model with its swell back, nicely raked upper shoulders and string length of 104.5cm is a result of that inspired collaboration.

The sound has rich tonal qualities and just the right amount of projection.

If you are currently studding the solo-rep hard, practicing your orchestral excerpts diligently and looking forward to getting your first job, then the good looks and sound of this instrument will certainly benefit your cause.
