There are so many instruments of Eastern European origin floating about on the market at the moment that are unidentifiable in terms of who actually made them, so it is completely refreshing to find this splendid Thomas Kennedy inspired instrument identifiable by the actual maker’s label. Indeed, it is not difficult to see why any maker who had created this instrument would not be as proud as punch of his work, for the violin outline model is perfect, the slightly smaller size than classic English-work is perfect for every player, and the workmanship is truly first class. We particularly like the wonderful red-brown oil varnish over a yellow ground which is full of beautiful colours and texture. They provide the instrument with a more “aged” appearance which is something that we know most players really approve of.

In terms of playability, the instrument feels comfy as it nestles against one’s body and it is very, very easy to get over the shoulders and up into the areas of rosin-dust. In terms of sound, the instrument possesses both volume and tonal qualities in abundance.

Overall this is a very decent, nicely made, good looking, positive sounding, completely honest instrument. Top marks Jiri Kropik!
