Att Charles Louis Bazin Double Bass Bow
Although this bow bears the brand 'La Pierre a Paris' on the handle, a maker of this name is not recorded and it seems most likely that this is fictitious or “pretende” name that was put on at a later date in order to make selling easier or indeed to secure a higher price. In our opinion the bold proportions and shape of the head, the positive flowing chamfers, the low frog, the one-piece button and the pearl eyes without rings are quite characteristic of the work of Charles Louis Bazin circa 1930. The bow is accompanied by an independent inspection report that confirms that some darker colouration in the wood across the top facets of the handle is a natural occurrence in the wood.
This quality French bow has many excellent playing qualities. It has an almost perfect playing length, it has an almost perfect weight and balance and the stick is nice and strong and maintains its shape well under tension.
We particularly like the fact that when the bow is in the hand it feels nice and comfy and when placed on the string it produces a fantastic quality of sound.
