Romanian Double Bass anno 2007
If you are wanting a truly fine sounding instrument but don’t quite have the finances to stretch to a fine old instrument in the thirty to forty thousand pound price range, then look no further than this stunning Romanian instrument which we purchased back in early 2007. At that time we were so impressed with the sheer volume and tonal qualities of the instrument that we decided to keep it and use it as a dedicated hire instrument. Indeed the instrument is credited with performing in front of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles at both Highgrove House and at Clarence House. It was also used by the orchestra of the Bolshoi Ballet.
Of particularly merit on this full-sized violin outline instrument is the highly figured wood of the back, ribs and scroll and the pronounced grain of the front. As you’d expect the instrument has been fitted up with a deep, dark top quality fingerboard, a Despieu C6 bridge that has been fitted with aluminium, adjusters and smooth turning separate Rubner machines.
This is a big bass with a truly big sound. In terms of bang-for-your-bucks, we think that you’ll be hard pressed to find something better than this.
