Although relatively little is known about the instrument maker Thomas Davies the quality of making that this instrument displays is that of a good competent maker who had an excellent eye for detail and made efficient use of his tools.

 

The instrument bears the makers original label on the central back brace and also his signature in pencil on the upper treble-side table. It is also bears a small T. Davies brand just below the back button.

 

This is a truly instrument magnificent instrument with a truly magnificent sound.

 

The instrument is featured over five full colour pages in the publication The English Double Bass by Thomas Martin, Martin Lawrence and George Martin.
