Louis Bazin Double Bass Bow

The double bass bows of Louis Bazin (b-1881, d-1953) have always been eagerly sought after by players because of their reputation for producing “the goods” when it is required during the symphonies of Beethoven, Bruckner and Mahler or during Wagner's Ring cycle. Although a few players may find this particular bow a little on the short and heavy side, for the symphony-orchestra player these stats are now very much in demand. 

Not only does this bow have fine playing characteristics, it is beautifully made in the French tradition. Note how unashamedly bold and masculine the head is in shape. Just take a look at how the immaculately crafted ridge flows into the cheeks and also how the precisely cut chamfers flow round so exquisitely into the stick at the underside of the head. Wonderful indeed!

The bow bears the makers name stamp on the handle in the normal position. In addition the bow is stamped “France” on the lower facet at the very end of the stick.

In terms of condition the bow does have a very slight scorch mark on the upper surface of the stick near to the lapping. This can only be due to an amateur bow-person attempting to re-spring the bow. Apart from this the bow is in amazing condition.

We really like the fact that this is such an honest, straight-forward, hard-working bow.
