William Tubbs Double Bass Bow

This incredibly rare early English bass bow was made by William Tubbs whose faint brand in bears. William Tubbs (b-1814, d-1878) was the father of the profusely-industrious bow maker James Tubbs. The bow was formerly in the ownership of Gordon Neal (b-1929, d-1978) who was a member of the London Symphony Orchestra for 20years. The bow weighs 142gms and is strong and masculine in its construction. The head is beautifully bold and proportioned in the manner of Tourte. We particularly love the way in which the bow sits on the string and draws out a simply colossal sound.
