We call this instrument a ‘Workshop’ instrument because the roughed-out body of an instrument, in this case emanating from Hungary, undergoes a substantial programme of improvements in the workshop of one of our capable outworkers. In brief the structural alterations and developments to this instrument include removal of the table (front), regraduation of the table, removal and replacement of the bass bar, replacement of the neck and fingerboard followed by varnish work and a full set-up. The complete upgrade programme takes around three weeks to complete. Once done, we think that the instrument is as good if not better than the handmade instruments of many contemporary makers that are charging EUR 25,000 and above. Really, it is impossible to fault visually, structurally and of course sound wise. This particularly fine example is a copy of the London maker Bernard Simon Fendt and features an exquisitely flamed maple back with matching ribs and scroll all of which have been enhanced by a glorious Fendt inspired red-brown spirit varnish over a yellow ground.

We are quite sure that you’ll also be well impressed by the high standard of the fittings and even more impressed by the feel of the instrument, the set-up, the very advantageous string length of only 105.5cm and the large-quality sound.

This is for sure, an instrument that will appeal to a wide range of up and coming players.
